Tried all the SMC and NVRAM resets and disconnected the harddrive when it was open, but nothing helps. In this case the fan stops on the spot and the startup-procedure beginns and everything is fine.

  • I press the on/off-button on the back of the lower left corner of the Mac.
  • In the very moment when I reconnect the power supply, the fan instantly starts running at top speed and won't stop again (I lost patience after 20 minutes and then I pulled out the plug again).

After doing so, I can wait as long as I want (I tried 8 hours during night).

  • I physically disconnect the power cable.
  • But it becomes strange when I shut down (or sleep mode) the Mac, because when the machine is OFF, the fan runs riot. iMac is working quite well, even the fan doesn't behave strange as along as the computer is running. If it’s off or in sleep mode the fan is spinning at high speed.

But I do remember it being a pain to set up. You have to make sure you enable fan control of the correct mobo something or other, it’s been years, I forget the details. Is there anybody who can help me with this?

If I'm playing a game or doing some productivity work like Rhino 3D or Adobe stuff, I would want my fans to spin faster coz I want to keep my PC cool. The only way I can really control my case fans are through the BIOS and it's really a hassle to enter BIOS just to change the fan speed. I tried searching online and I tried speedfan but it doesn't detect my fans. But I can't really control my fan speeds. So I recently bought and installed the Cooler Master SickleFlow 120 fans and the MF120 Halo.
